The Be. Org developed the “In My Shoes” campaign to showcase the impact of their youth development programming on the lives of their students in Baltimore. The project, which showcases the impact of their work through their students’ perspectives, uses testimonials taken from listening sessions with students and student interviews. One of the major highlights shared by students is that The Be. Org has created a safe space for them to learn and grow. The title of the project is derived from the adage that you must walk a mile in someone’s shoes in order to understand their lives.

“The Anthem Awards were born out of the desire to amplify and celebrate the voices that are creating sustainable change and to inspire others to take action,” said Patricia McLoughlin, Anthem Awards General Manager. “In a year where so much is at stake, it is incredibly important to recognize impact work and celebrate the progress happening globally. Congratulations to all of this year’s Winners.”

“We are incredibly proud to announce that our campaign ‘In My Shoes’ has been honored with four prestigious awards. This achievement is a testament to the dedication and passion of our team, as well as the courage and resilience of the students from Baltimore who shared their stories with us. As we celebrate the 10th anniversary of The Be. Org’s service to the community, winning these awards holds a special significance. It reaffirms our commitment to centering youth voices amplifying, fostering understanding, and making a tangible difference in the lives of young people. We are grateful for this recognition and look forward to continuing our mission of empowerment and advocacy,” says Tonee Lawson, Founder and Executive Director of The Be. Org.

By amplifying the voices that spark global change, the Anthem Awards are defining a new benchmark for impactful work that inspires others to take action in their communities. A portion of program revenue is allocated to the Anthem Award’s grant program, The Anthem Fund. This year the Anthem Fund partnered with the Billion Oyster Project to support their work to restore and conserve New York’s waterways.
